Tips for Recognition Programs
Employee recognition is important to well-being of your entire company. It is not just a nice thing to do for people, it is a communication tool that reinforces and rewards the effort that your employees put in to making your company great! Here are some tips! First and foremost, it is important to make every employee eligible for recognition. Don’t leave anyone out because each job at your company is as important than the next. You should also find a reward that is good for both the employees and the company. Sending an employee to Hawaii for two weeks in recognition for completing a basic assignment may be overboard. What are they being recognized for? Make sure this is known. If they are being rewarded for being on time or closing the big merger, it is important to highlight that aspect as to reinforce your company expectations. This way, they know why they were recognized and will continue the quality work in the future. Be quick with your response time. These recognition programs should be handled and brought forward as closely after the action as possible. If you have monthly recognition, it is too spaced away from positive work. Reinforce the positive work ethic with Friday doughnuts or pizza! Try to spice it up as to not create a sense of entitlement from your employees. If they expect to be recognized with the same thing at the same time every week, it may loose its ability to be effective.
